THE POLITICAL ECONOMY OF FOREST GOVERNANCE IN CENTRAL AFRICA SUB REGION: an analysis of the interests and power dynamics shaping policy and governance outcomes.

The forests of Central Africa are extremely rich in biodiversity and provide critical ecosystem services, but forest governance faces significant challenges such as weak legal frameworks, limited stakeholder participation, and inadequate enforcement mechanisms. Forest laws are often poorly enforced or outdated, leading to illegal activities such as illegal logging and land grabbing. Local communities and indigenous peoples are often excluded from decision-making processes, exacerbating poverty and social inequality. Understanding the political economy of forest governance in Central Africa is crucial for developing effective policies and strategies to promote sustainable forest management and conservation.
